Personal Tax Returns
Do I need to file?
While technically not mandatory for every single resident of Canada (e.g., if you do not owe any tax), it is highly recommend that you file, even if you earned zero income. Below are just some of the reasons:
- Receive tax-free credits, depending on your income
- Build RRSP contribution room
- Receive proof of income needed for loan applications
- Prevent late fees and interest on any tax owing to CRA
- Receive a tax refund for any tax overpayments
For over 10 years, I have helped individuals in various challenging and unique circumstances navigate their tax returns, ensuring they receive every deduction and credit to which they're entitled. Below are just some of the situations I can help you with.
Who I work with
Employment
In addition to reporting the income on your T4, I provide specialized support for more complex situations including employment expenses, restricted stock units, moving expenses, severance pay, and employee stock options.
Business
Whether you're a freelancer, Uber driver, or a small business owner, I will ensure you take advantage of every legitimate deduction. I will also file any required GST/HST returns for your business, and provide recommendations for good bookeeping practices.
Rental
I help landlords maximize their rental deductions while maintaining compliance with the CRA. I also provide expert guidance on more complex matters including change-in-use rules, classification of expenses as capital or current, and the sale of rental properties.
Investments
I help investors accurately report their capital gains and track their adjusted cost base (ACB) to avoid overpaying tax. I also provide personalized advice on optimizing contributions to your RRSP to maximize tax deferral opportunities.
Foreign
Residents of Canada with certain foreign properties that cost more than $100,000 must complete a T1135 form. I help walk you through whether your properties are in scope, while ensuring that you fulfill all of your reporting obligations.
